Located in the middle of a sixty mile stretch of coastline called The Grand Strand, Myrtle Beach has been voted one of the top beaches on the east coast. First settled in the 1800’s, the area developed and became known as New Town when a new railway opened from Conway to Myrtle Beach in the early 1900’s. The first hotel in the area was built by the Burrough’s and named the Seaside Inn in 1901. The area continued to develop and was incorporated as Myrtle Beach in 1957. The name Myrtle Beach was named for a local bush called the wax myrtle.
